In 2019, Scalestech was founded by Habil Moi and his business partner, Mark Ngara, with a simple but powerful mission: to provide reliable weighing-scale service, repair, and maintenance solutions across Kenya.

At the time, operations were lean and highly hands-on. A team of freelance technicians would be deployed whenever a job came in — whether it was calibration, repair, or on-site servicing. There was no structured office system, no automation, and very little paperwork. Everything was driven by field expertise and urgency.

The early headquarters was modest — described by early team members as a “hall.” Tools were limited, and engineers often relied on creative setups, including using Habil Moi’s Toyota Prius boot as a mobile toolbox. Despite the constraints, one thing was clear: the commitment to accurate weighing solutions and client satisfaction was uncompromising.

From a Hall to a Foundation of Growth

As demand increased, Scalestech transitioned from a single hall office to two dedicated rooms, marking the first real step toward structured operations.

At this stage, the business was still heavily service-driven. Revenue primarily came from weighing scale repairs, calibration, and maintenance services, while sales were still developing.

However, a breakthrough moment changed everything.

The First Major Breakthrough: Property World

Scalestech’s first major bulk order came from Property World, which purchased 200 platform weighing scales. This milestone opened what the team describes as “the gate to growth.”

Soon after, an even bigger opportunity followed — One Acre Fund, which placed a massive order for 1,700 platform scales. This became a defining moment that established Scalestech as a serious player in the weighing industry.

Building in Kenya: The Birth of Manufactured Solutions

In 2021, Scalestech moved into a larger facility that included its first workshop. This marked a major transformation — from service-based operations to local fabrication and manufacturing of weighing solutions in Kenya.

This is where the idea of Made in Kenya weighing scales was born.

The first locally fabricated scale was a white platform scale, created by Scalestech’s first fabricator, Ali. While it was initially a prototype, it became symbolic — even a client once insisted on purchasing it, though it was retained as part of Scalestech’s innovation history.

Today, Scalestech platform scales are widely recognized in their signature blue finish, but that early white scale remains a reminder of the company’s engineering beginnings.

Expanding Beyond Scales: Industrial Innovation

As the company evolved, Scalestech expanded from service and fabrication into full-scale industrial weighing solutions and automation systems.

Key milestones include:

  • 2019: First service weighbridge — Golden Africa

  • 2020: First weighbridge installation — Mombasa Maize Millers

  • 2020: First supermarket client — Mulley’s Supermarket

  • 2021: First tank weighing system — Carbacid at Kenafric Industries

  • 2023: First custom tank weighing solution — Kapi Limited

  • 2024: First aviation clients — Blue Bird Aviation

  • 2024: First lab weighing solution installation

  • 2026: First weighbridge automation system implementation

Each milestone represented not just growth but a shift toward intelligent, automated, and customized weighing ecosystems.

Industry-Wide Impact Across Africa

Today, Scalestech has delivered solutions across multiple sectors, including:

  • Agriculture and dairy farming (e.g., Palm House and dairy clients)

  • Retail and supermarkets (including Carrefour Kenya)

  • Manufacturing and industrial processing

  • Logistics and transport

  • Aviation (including RwandAir and Blue Bird Aviation)

  • Environmental and recycling operations (e.g., Mr. Green Africa)

The company has also specialized in:

  • Digitization of analogue weighbridges

  • Custom-built weighing systems

  • Label printing and POS-integrated scales

  • Automation of industrial weighing processes

A Culture of Customization and Engineering Precision

One of Scalestech’s strongest competitive advantages has been its ability to customize weighing solutions based on client needs.

Whether it is:

  • Smart baggage scales for aviation

  • Tailor-made floor scales

  • Automated weighbridge systems

  • Tank and industrial weighing integrations

Each solution is engineered to solve a specific operational challenge, not just to sell equipment.

The Future: Intelligent Weighing Ecosystems

As Scalestech enters its 7th year, the focus has shifted clearly toward disruptive innovation and intelligent systems.

The next phase is built on:

  • Smart automation of weighing processes

  • Cloud-connected weighing systems

  • AI-assisted calibration and monitoring

  • Fully integrated industrial data ecosystems

  • Expansion of custom-built solutions across Africa

The vision is no longer just about weighing — it is about creating intelligent, connected, and data-driven industrial ecosystems.

Conclusion: Built Through Precision, Driven by Trust

From a small service team operating out of a hall, to a company delivering industrial-scale weighing automation across Africa, Scalestech’s journey has been defined by one constant — precision.

Every scale installed, every system automated, and every solution customized has contributed to a bigger mission:

To secure client profitability through accurate, intelligent, and reliable weighing technology.

Seven years later, Scalestech continues to evolve — not just as a supplier of weighing systems, but as a builder of smart industrial ecosystems for the future of Africa.
