A well-documented case in the Rift Valley: a livestock trader estimated a Friesian cow at 420 kg using a tape measure. When placed on a certified digital scale, the actual weight was 618 kg — a difference of 198 kg. At the prevailing farm-gate price of KES 400 per kg, the farmer lost over KES 79,000 on a single transaction. Across thousands of similar transactions, the sector loses billions annually.

In Kenya's tea sector — the country's largest foreign exchange earner — the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) mandates that all tea collection centres operate certified weighing equipment. Unlike a static platform scale, a livestock scale must capture accurate weight while the animal moves, shifts its weight, and resists confinement. Our scales use dynamic weighing mode, which samples the weight continuously and provides a stable average reading even when the animal is restless. Key features include a reinforced steel cage with non-slip platform, integrated veterinary examination structure, rechargeable battery for remote farm use, and digital LCD display. Capacity: up to 1,500 kg, suitable for bulls, cows, and large cattle. All cattle scales are approved by the Weights and Measures Department of Kenya.

Milk & Dairy Weighing Scales: Kenya has over 800 licensed dairy cooperatives, with milk collection volumes exceeding 800 million litres annually (Kenya Dairy Board data). Every litre collected must be accurately weighed to ensure fair farmer payment. Grain, Maize & Cereal Scales: Kenya produces approximately 4 million metric tonnes of maize annually. For dairy cooperatives, our milk collection system combines a Bluetooth milk scale with a portable Android terminal. The farmer's ID is scanned, the milk is weighed, and the data is instantly recorded to the cooperative's management system — eliminating disputes, reducing reconciliation time, and enabling automatic monthly payment calculations. This system is currently deployed in cooperatives.

For grain depots and cereal stores, our automated ticketing system connects platform scales to a label printer and database, producing an instant weight ticket for every delivery. The system generates daily, weekly, and monthly throughput reports — replacing manual ledger books and reducing the risk of stock fraud.

All our smart weighing systems are designed for Kenya's infrastructure reality: they operate offline when connectivity is interrupted and sync automatically when reconnected. Battery backup handles power outages common in peri-urban and rural farm settings.

CERTIFICATION & COMPLIANCE

All farm weighing scales supplied by Scalestech are calibrated and certified by the Weights and Measures Department of Kenya (Ministry of Trade). This certification is mandatory for trade use under the Weights and Measures Act (Cap 513) of Kenya. Operating an uncertified scale for commercial transactions is a criminal offence under Kenyan law, with penalties including fines and equipment confiscation.

In addition to national certification, our dairy milk scales comply with Kenya Dairy Board requirements and are accepted at all KTDA green leaf collection centres. Our tea and coffee scales meet the quality standards required by the Kenya Tea Development Agency and Kenya Coffee Traders Association buying centres.

Our field service teams are based in Nairobi and Eldoret, enabling on-site installation and calibration support across the Rift Valley, Central, Nyanza, and Western Kenya regions. We regularly service farm scale clients in Nakuru's milk shed zone, the Rift Valley's large livestock ranches, the tea estates of Kericho and Nandi, and the grain belt of the North Rift (Eldoret, Kitale, Trans Nzoia).

East Africa: We supply and install farm weighing scales in Uganda (Kampala, Jinja, Mbarara), Tanzania (Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Moshi), Rwanda (Kigali), Zambia (Lusaka, Kitwe), and Sudan (Khartoum). Cross-border orders are shipped via Mombasa port or Nairobi air freight. We provide import documentation support for clients in countries requiring customs clearance.

Scalestech provides comprehensive after-sales support: on-site installation and commissioning; operator training for farm staff; spare parts supply including load cells, display indicators, and platform components; breakdown repair with turnaround within 24–48 hours in Nairobi and 2–5 days upcountry; and annual calibration with compliance certificate.
