Transportation and logistics
Weighbridge & Logistics Weighing Scales in Kenya
At Scalestech, we exist to prevent that. We are Kenya's KENAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited supplier of weighbridges, axle load scales, truck weighing systems, and cargo weighing equipment — trusted by logistics companies, fleet operators, and freight forwarders across the country. From our base in Nairobi, we supply, install, and calibrate certified weighing systems in Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Thika, as well as across East Africa.
Every year, thousands of transport operators across Kenya face NTSA fines of up to KES 300,000, vehicle impoundment, and road damage liability — not because they set out to break the law, but because they lacked an accurate, certified logistics weighing scale at the point of loading. One overloaded truck run is all it takes to lose a freight contract, a vehicle, or a permit.
Whether you manage a fleet of 5 trucks or 500, operate a bonded warehouse in Nairobi's Industrial Area, handle cargo at Mombasa Port, or run a cold-chain distribution centre in Eldoret, Scalestech has a certified weighing solution designed for your operation. All our equipment meets the requirements of Kenya's Weights and Measures Department and is backed by our nationwide installation, calibration, and maintenance network.
Our logistics weighing solutions include static and portable truck weighbridges, axle load weighers, pallet scales, in-motion weighing systems, and weighbridge automation software — everything a modern transport and logistics operation needs to stay compliant, efficient, and profitable.
Our Transport & Logistics Weighing Solutions
Scalestech supplies and installs a complete range of industrial weighing equipment for Kenya's transport and logistics sector. Every product is certified, calibrated to Weights and Measures standards, and backed by our national service network.
Truck Weighbridges — Static & Portable
A truck weighbridge is the backbone of any serious logistics or freight operation. It provides a definitive, legally-admissible weight measurement for loaded trucks, trailers, tankers, and freight containers — before they leave your yard. Scalestech supplies and installs both static pit-type and pitless weighbridges, as well as portable modular weighbridges for temporary or remote sites.
Our static weighbridges are built from either steel or reinforced concrete and are available in capacities from 30 tonnes up to 100 tonnes, with platform sizes from 8 × 3 metres to 24 × 3 metres to accommodate the longest East African freight vehicles. Every installation includes a certified digital indicator, load cell array, and — where required — printer and software integration.
Portable weighbridges are ideal for quarrying operations in Machakos and Kitui, agricultural aggregation points in Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu counties, and construction sites across Nairobi where a permanent installation is not feasible. They can be deployed, levelled, and operational within hours.

Axle Load Scales & Axle Weighers
An axle load scale measures the weight carried by each individual axle of a truck or trailer — not just the total vehicle weight. This distinction matters enormously for road compliance. A truck that falls within its gross vehicle weight (GVW) limit can still be fined if any single axle is overloaded, because excess axle load causes disproportionate road damage and is independently enforced under Kenya's Traffic Act Cap 403.
Scalestech supplies portable axle load weighers and permanent in-ground axle weighing systems. Our portable axle pads can be deployed roadside or in a yard and deliver accurate axle-by-axle readings in under two minutes — giving fleet managers and transport supervisors the data they need to redistribute loads before departure.
Fleet operators in Nairobi's Industrial Area use our axle load scales to check every outgoing truck before it reaches the Mlolongo weigh station on the Mombasa Road. Aggregate and quarry trucks operating out of Mombasa's port industrial zone rely on our systems to pass the Mariakani checkpoint without penalty.
Capacity range: 5 tonnes to 30 tonnes per axle pad. Bluetooth and USB connectivity available. Compatible with our weighbridge management software for centralised fleet reporting.
Pallet Scales & Forklift Scales for Logistics Warehouses
Inside the warehouse, accurate pallet and cargo weighing is just as critical as roadside compliance. Underweight shipments erode margins. Overweight pallets damage racking, injure staff, and — when loaded onto trucks — create the axle overload problems described above. Scalestech supplies industrial pallet scales, floor platform scales, and forklift-mounted weighing systems calibrated to Weights and Measures standards.
Our floor platform scales for logistics applications are available in capacities from 500 kg up to 5,000 kg, with stainless steel platforms suitable for dusty, wet, or outdoor loading environments. For operations that need weight data at the point of pick-up, our forklift scale attachments deliver accurate readings as goods are lifted — eliminating the need for a separate weighing station and dramatically speeding up loading times.
All units are supplied with OIML-compliant load cells and digital indicators, and can be integrated with your warehouse management system (WMS) or ERP for automatic weight capture and recording.
In-Motion Weighing Systems
For high-throughput logistics operations where stopping every truck for a static weighing check creates a bottleneck, in-motion weighing systems offer a powerful alternative. These systems capture the weight of a moving vehicle — at speeds up to 5 km/h for low-speed WIM (weigh-in-motion) systems and up to 80 km/h for high-speed highway WIM — without requiring the driver to stop.
Scalestech supplies and installs low-speed in-motion weighbridge systems for factory exit gates, quarry egress points, port terminals, and logistics park entry points. As a truck drives over the weighplate at walking speed, the system records the total vehicle weight, individual axle weights, date, time, and — where integrated with ANPR camera systems — vehicle registration number.
In-motion systems are increasingly being adopted by large-scale logistics operators along the Nairobi–Mombasa Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) freight corridor and by fuel distribution companies managing tanker fleets out of Eldoret and Nakuru. The result is faster throughput, zero manual data entry, and a complete digital audit trail for every vehicle movement.
All Scalestech in-motion systems are integrated with our weighbridge management software and can produce KEBS-format certificates and NTSA-compliant weight tickets automatically.
COMPLIANCE & REGULATORY CONTEXT
NTSA Overloading Regulations & Road Compliance in Kenya
Kenya's roads carry some of the heaviest freight loads in sub-Saharan Africa. The Northern Corridor — stretching from Mombasa Port through Nairobi and into Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan — handles over 80% of landlocked East Africa's imported goods by road. The price of that volume is enormous wear on infrastructure. The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) estimates that overloaded trucks cause up to 60% of premature road surface damage on key national highways.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) operates permanent weighbridge enforcement stations at strategic points on Kenya's main transport corridors:
Mariakani — on the A109 Mombasa Road, 30 km west of Mombasa Port. One of the busiest enforcement points in East Africa.
Mlolongo — southern approach to Nairobi on the Mombasa Road. Critical for trucks entering the capital.
Salgaa — on the A104 near Nakuru, on the route towards Eldoret and the Uganda border.
Gilgil — A104, north of Naivasha, covering the Rift Valley transport corridor.
Webuye — western Kenya, A104 approach to Uganda.
Penalties for overloading are severe: operators face fines ranging from KES 50,000 to KES 300,000 per offence, mandatory off-loading at the roadside (at the operator's cost and risk), vehicle impoundment until the load is compliant, and potential revocation of transport permits for repeat offenders. Cargo delays resulting from enforcement stops can also result in breach of delivery contracts and loss of client relationships.
The most effective and lowest-cost solution is pre-departure weighing — confirming that every truck is within its legal axle load limits before it leaves your yard. Scalestech's axle load scales and truck weighbridges make pre-departure compliance straightforward, fast, and fully documented. Our systems issue a printed and digitally logged weight ticket that your driver can present at any NTSA weigh station as evidence of pre-departure compliance checks.
For authoritative guidance on Kenya's axle load regulations, visit the NTSA official website or download the Axle Load Control Regulations from the Kenya Roads Board.

FAQs - Weighbridge and Logistic Weighing Scales
Can Scalestech calibrate my existing weighbridge?
Yes. Scalestech operates a KENAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited calibration service and is authorised to calibrate and verify weighbridges to Kenya's Weights and Measures Department (WMD) standards. We calibrate all makes and models of weighbridges — not only equipment we have supplied. Our calibration certificates are accepted for trade and compliance purposes. Calibration is recommended annually or after any major repair or relocation. Call our service team on +254 756 233 223 to schedule a calibration visit.
What is an axle load scale and why does my fleet need one?
An axle load scale (or axle weigher) measures the weight carried by each individual axle of a truck or trailer. Unlike a full weighbridge, which measures total vehicle weight, an axle scale detects individual axle overloads — which can exist even when a truck is within its overall GVW limit. This matters because Kenya's Traffic Act penalises axle overloading independently of total vehicle weight. Installing an axle load scale at your yard exit allows your transport supervisor to check and redistribute loads before departure — avoiding NTSA fines of up to KES 300,000, vehicle impoundment, and road damage liability.
